The Hororata Golf Club is a magnificent, picturesque 18-hole course situated in the small rural town of Glentunnel, some 35 minutes West of Christchurch. The course is set across the terraces of the Selwyn River.
The club started in 1922, a similar story that started in the middle of the racecourse. A six-hole affair soon grew to the nine that was at Terrace Station.
Arguably, the most magnificent country course in the South Island was developed in 1966 by guess who, Commander Harris, a golf course architect with an international reputation, who had his fingers all over NZ golf courses. I think he was only here to avoid the British winter.
4th of October 1969, was the last day of play at the Terrace Station course; the new Glentunnel course officially opened on 18th April 1970, for 9 Holes. By 1975, the course progressed to 12 holes, and 1979, the full 18 holes came into play.
A course you need to visit when in the Canterbury region, it has something special.
