North Shore Golf Club

The North Shore Golf club is obviously located on the North Shore of Auckland, near Albany. There are 27 holes, which gives you an option of a combination of 3 different 18 hole challenges. The Red, Blue, and Gold courses could be classed as 3 courses when totting up the New Zealand total, or the 27 holes as 1 and a half courses. I’ll stick to this being 1 golf course unless I’m convinced otherwise.

The club was formed in 1931, starting life on the site now used by Thomas Park Municipal Course in Takapuna. When the Auckland Harbour Bridge opened for traffic in 1959 the club was getting crowded out with the population explosion. They moved to the current site in Albany with a pocketful of government money. The sale of a parcel of their land for motorway development went into the development of the new course.

The course is a gently rolling parkland affair with many mature trees. It generally makes the top 50 in New Zealand, without too much pomp and ceremony.
