A Slice of NZ Golf (asliceofnzgolf.com) is an independent New Zealand golf website operated by Sokiwi Ltd, Queenstown, New Zealand (“we”, “us”). We take your privacy seriously and handle personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- Newsletter sign-ups: your email address (and name, if you give it) when you subscribe to our fortnightly newsletter.
- Contact form messages: your name, email address and whatever you choose to write to us.
- Comments: the name, email and comment you submit, plus your IP address and browser details to help filter spam.
- Site usage data: anonymous or aggregated information such as pages viewed, referring sites, device and browser type and approximate location, collected through our site statistics tools.
We do not ask for, and do not want, sensitive information such as payment details. We never sell your personal information.
How we use it
- To send you the newsletter you signed up for (you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email).
- To reply to your messages.
- To publish and moderate comments.
- To understand which course reviews and guides are useful so we can improve the site.
Newsletter (Mailchimp)
Our newsletter is delivered by Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.), which stores subscriber details on servers in the United States. Mailchimp records whether emails are opened and links clicked so we can see what readers find useful. See Intuit’s privacy statement.
Cookies and site statistics
Like most websites we use cookies – small files stored in your browser. We use them for site statistics (via Jetpack/WordPress.com), to remember comment details if you ask us to, and to keep logged-in administrators signed in. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.
Affiliate links
Some gear reviews and buying guides contain affiliate links (for example to Amazon, Blue Tees Golf and other retailers). If you click one, the retailer or affiliate network may set a cookie so that, if you buy something, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We don’t receive your name, address or payment details – only confirmation that a sale happened. These retailers handle your data under their own privacy policies. Affiliate relationships never change our opinions or course reviews.
Embedded content from other websites
Pages may include embedded content such as YouTube videos or maps. These behave as if you had visited the other website and may collect data about you under that site’s own privacy policy.
Who we share information with
Only the service providers needed to run the site – our web host (Bluehost), WordPress/Jetpack, Mailchimp and spam-filtering services – and only to the extent needed to provide their service. Some of these providers store data outside New Zealand (mainly in the United States); we choose reputable providers that protect information to a comparable standard. We will disclose information if required by law.
How long we keep it
Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry. Approved comments are kept alongside the article they relate to.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. You can also ask us to delete it. To do any of these, get in touch via our contact page. If you are not happy with how we’ve handled your request, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site grows (for example if we add new tools or services). The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
