Rotorua Golf Club is very central to the township on Fenton Street. Located on unique terrain with thermal features it is a very different and excellent 18 holes.
If you haven’t played with steaming water and bubbling hot pools as your main hazards this course will amaze you. But to be fair hot water or cold water – it is still water!
The club was formed in 1906 and found it’s home here at Arikikapakapa Reserve in 1912. The first nine holes was a great start to recreational golf in the then small but blooming town.
In 1918 the full 18 holes were completed but of equal note, the first Triplex Mower was purchased in 1923. I am so pleased that this legendary moment in their history did not go unnoticed.
Charles H Redhead was a member here in the 1920’s and was a chief consultant on the remodelling of the course. C.H. Redhead it is said had a hand in nearly every golf course in the country by the end of the 1930’s.
