Wanaka Golf Club

The epic alpine mountain region of Mount Aspiring National Park is the perfect backdrop for this 18 hole golf course. The Wanaka Golf Club was established in 1922. It moved to the current location in 1930’s as a nine hole affair. The front nine is a hill climb with amazing views over Lake Wanaka. In 1967 the second nine was added across the road, this is much easier walking in a parklike setting.

The big friendly clubrooms have 2 wood burners to keep away the chills of winter when conditions will be cold but playable. The summer heat and the spectacular scenery makes the course one of the best in the area.

The 5,743 metre par 70 is a mix of hole challenges that will keep you interested. The hole names take their references from the environment around you. Mt. Iron, Mt Barker, Cardrona, and Lakeview.

There are Scottish undertones to the area and holes Clanmac, Criffel and Wee Willie stand testament to that.

The pictures tell the story here so check out the gallery and visit the course to soak it all up for yourself. Wanaka Golf Club sits firmly on the list of Top New Zealand Golf Courses.
