Warkworth Golf Club

The Warkworth Golf Club has been in existence since 1908. The brain child of Dr. Malcolm Morrison, who apparently got the golf bug whilst studying in Scotland.

It was in the 1920’s that the club took over this block of Land on Matakana Road and transformed the area into this wonderful parkland course.

The opening 9 has some hills to challenge your fitness but with the pick of the views. The back 9 is less hilly but not lacking a challenge.

A friendly club with and good quality golf. What else do you need to visit the Warkworth Golf Club?

Thanks to Sue at the club who has provided a brilliant booklet to mark the club’s centennial in 2008. It is a great read and highlights the work a community does to get a golf course up and running.

There are photos in here that make you want to get out a pair of galoshes. And if I had a flat cap I’d tip it to Bob Thompson, who lost a finger to an eel whilst recovering golf balls from the drains.

What a great club Warkworth is, with a history to be proud of. Read the booklet below.
