Amberley Golf Club

Amberley is a little surf beach town 30 minutes north of Christchurch. The golf course is 18 holes with a lovely outlook and some of the best greens in Northern Canterbury, some would say.

The club was established in 1922, and the original 9 holes that started the club had a gully resembling the Grand Canyon, according to local whisky makers and drinkers who had never seen the actual Grand Canyon.

The course moved in the 1940’s, and they relocated the clubhouse. In the 1950’s, they moved the clubhouse again and formed the layout for the current course, growing from 13 to 18 holes as time went by. The members moved the clubhouse once again to make way for a brand new construction. Now it is housing the members in banter about the old days and the Grand Canyon.
