In the township of Kerikeri is this marvelous 18-hole golf course. One of the best in the region and with a real championship feel. First established in 1936 the year that Mrs Edkins won the club championship, maybe the only lady to take out a men’s club champs? In 1941 the club closed but was reformed in its current location in 1970.
Sitting on free-draining volcanic soil is a bonus all year round. The greens are large and have subtle breaks through them. The bunkering is significant and the fairways are wonderfully tree-lined. Great bones for a golf course.
As it seems on a lot of courses the 13th is the signature hotel. Hitting off an elevated to a green that is nearly 20 metres below is one challenge, the water and bunkers stack a little extra into the experience.
