Carved out of dunes, marram grass, and mature trees you will find Cromwell Golf Club is one of the best in Otago. The feel of this course is all links, but nowhere near the ocean.
The club was established in 1903, one of the oldest in New Zealand. Located near Lake Dunstan in the fruit bowl of New Zealand. Cromwell is one of the driest parts of Aotearoa making it an all-year-round perfect place to play.
The club played in many locations in its early days, settling into this location in 1946. The redevelopment of the course was completed in 2011, transforming it into one of NZ’s Top Golf Courses.
The greens at the Cromwell golf course are excellent, with many undulations and they are extremely testing. Good bunkering and the encroaching marram grass make your approach shots a challenge right around the 18 holes.
The last is a unique and delightful way to finish. “Snakegully” will bite you. Your drive needs to be perfect to find the narrow gap between the raised fairway bunkers. Playing short and safe will leave you a long iron to a treacherous but picture-perfect green.
The clubrooms await you after this great way to end your round. The Best Holes in New Zealand are better off for the addition of the 18th at Cromwell Golf Club.
