A walk up and play public golf course 15 minutes from central Dunedin. The main sign on the way in claims a $15 green fee will get you on this nice wee course, the discounted rate of $10 is offered where you pay. Good phycology to under-promise and over-deliver. With an extra fiver in your pocket, the spirits will lift for the opening tee shot.
Gladfield Golf Club is a good challenging nine-hole golf course. The opener is downhill with a wide landing area. The false sense of security is broken on the tough 2nd. An uphill par 5 that has a serious dog leg and a difficult approach to the green.
From the top of the course on the 3rd tee, the vista is lovely unlike the challenging drive across a steep gully to then face a blind shot a the green.
The 2 back-to-back par 3′ s at the 4th and 5th are a pleasure, before heading to the bottom end of the course for a more sedate finish.
Only 15 minutes from Dunedin city centre, Gladfield Golf Club is a worthy place to pull over a test yourself on this tricky course. It is located right next door to JJ’s Golf Club another nine-hole course.
