Mahunga Golf Club

Solway Golf Club was formed in 1931 as a 9-hole course. The excitement for golf in the area drove the members to expand to a full 18 in 1935. This was when they voted to change the name to Mahunga Golf Club as it is today.

There was a hive of activity in the 1960s around the club, the tractor shed caught fire, they removed the sheep from the course ( under suspicion that they contained the arsonist!) and a world record for the fastest 18 holes was recorded. This is not recorded anywhere in the Guinness Book of Records, maybe it was one of the sheep and this doesn’t count?!.

The course sits on 2 levels but is an easy walking delight in Masteron, in the wonderful Wairarapa.
