Situated near Lake Maraetai outside of Mangakino township. 55kms north of Taupo and 40km south of Tokoroa this is country Waikato for sure.
Mangakino Golf Club is a nine-hole course that is easy walking with only slight undulations. During your round, you are blessed with picturesque views of Lake Maraetai and the surrounding forest.
The front and back nine differ by 180 metres – the front has 2 par 3’s the back has 3 of them but one less par 5. This makes for a thoughtful second run at the nine-holer.
Lake Maraetai flanks the course and the interesting undulations down at the far end of the course make it a worthy experience. The 5th/14th is a 243-metre par 4 or 133-metre par 3. The hole of the course for sure not just for that variation but a very intrusive pond at the front of the green makes it a challenge from either tee.
The first meeting of the club was in 1949, the current course was finished in 1951.
