Following a general meeting of the club in 1949, the visionaries at this meeting engaged Alex Russell to design a world-class golf course. Russell had won the Australian Open in his day and went on to design many world-class courses but only one majestic course in New Zealand.
Some of the greatest golfers worldwide have walked the links Peter Thompson, Gary Player, Corey Pavin and Tiger. Paraparaumu Beach Golf Course tamed the Tiger for sure in 2002.
