On the coast overlooking the Foveaux Straight this town of Riverton is a holiday hotspot. 30 minutes from Invercargill it is an integral part of the Southern Scenic route on Highway 99.
The Riveria of the South is blessed with a 9 hole golf course in the classic links style. The holiday makers and locals alike are in for a treat if they get out for a round at Riverton.
The Aparima river flows down from the Takitimu Mountains and comes out at Riverton and off into the Foveaux Straight. A treacherous stretch of water not for the faint-hearted.
The golf course is a little more tame and has a wonderful undulating nature of a links course. Add this course to your holiday plans.
The club was formed in August 1910, one of the local historians has given me some records gathered for the centenary. I find this fascinating that small town New Zealand has been built around communities and that golf has been a big part of that.
